Our stay in La Paz in the Fall and Winter of 2001 has been unforgettable. This was the first place in Mexico where we found the time to relax and enjoy the sights without a schedule. In La Paz, we made many new friends, both from the cruising community and native Mexicans. And the sunsets at the marina have been unforgettable.
We first visited "the Islands" when coming North from Cabo San Lucas. Caleta Partida is a beautiful anchorage which is really an old crater formation. Then, we sailed South from there to La Paz, an easy half-day trip. We were sorry to leave such a picturesque and friendly city. We take with us many memories, which we share in these pages.
On this nautical chart, you can see the location of La Paz in the Sea of Cortez. It is tucked away and well protected from the northerly cold winds that come in from California in the Winter. Nearby, are some of the most beautiful islands in the Sea of Cortez. The Isla Partida anchorage is one of the favorites of the locals. |
