Dinghy Raft-Up
Home Up Casa de Piratas Jungle Cruise Dinghy Raft-Up More Sunsets Parties, Parties... Tamarindo

As we were approaching Tenacatita, we heard an announcement on the VHF radio that there would be a "dinghy raft-up" near the beach at 5pm. Everyone was welcome and was to bring some snack or finger-food plus their own drinks.

So far, we have been to two such "dinghy raft-ups", and we have had a great time. Don, from WINDWARD LOVE, also known as the mayor of Tenacatita, hosted the event. He welcomed everybody and asked each couple, or each dinghy, to introduce themselves, talk a bit about one's plans. It was interesting to note that most people had very vague plans. One couple said they had the problem solved: he is going to go North, and she is going to South, ON THE SAME BOAT!  Just kidding, of course!

These pictures only show less than half of the  dinghies participating in the raftup.

On the lower picture, in the background on the left side, you can see the catamaran Jitterbug. This catamaran was on a delivery trip from Barcelona, Spain to San Francisco, through the Panama Canal. It was being brought up by our friend Dave Howie, a very funny guy from New Zealand, associated with Quantum Sails in San Francisco Bay. By sheer coincidence, through a wireless email from his wife Angela, we found out that JITTERBUG would be passing through this general area of Mexico in this time frame, and so did they. To make a long story short, JITTERBUG heard SIESTA calling another boat, and then we heard "JITTERBUG" calling SIESTA as we approached Tenacatita Bay. After realizing what a coincidence this was, we enticed them to come into Tenacatita to partake of the the dinghy raftup festivities, and under "great pressure" from his crew, a very nice young couple, Dave changed course and came into Tenacatita. After the raft-up, they had dinner on our boat, and we showed pictures of when Dave was helping us get ready to leave San Francisco, along with his very special family.
