As we moved on from Cabo San Lucas, after the completion of the Baja Haha event that got us there, we found that were pretty much on our own. We now make our own plans, choose our overnight stopping point, and points of interest to visit and explore. We travel with other boats that we have met along the way, when we can. We prefer to travel in small groups, rather than just by ourselves. It makes a lot of sense. Many boats headed South after the Haha, looking for warmer weather. But it is still pretty warm in the Sea of Cortez, and we wanted to see some of it, before we headed South to Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. We also plan to leave our boat in La Paz, when we visit South Florida over the Holidays. La Paz is the largest Mexican city in Baja, a short stop away from Cabo, which by many, is the nicest place to hang out in all of the Baja Peninsula. Having been here a few days, we can see why this may be the case.
The town is bordered by a Malecón along the shoreline, which is protected from the seas and does not get very choppy. The people here are extremely friendly. The tourists come here for peace and quiet, not for the fishing and nightlife you find in Cabo. And near La Paz are some of the most beautiful islands in the Sea of Cortez. Isla Spiritu Santo and Isla Partida are two of the most hospitable and inviting places we have seen in a long time. In the middle of the two is Caleta Partida, an idilic anchorage. We visited these islands briefly before we came into La Paz to get a taste of the cruising life available in Baja. Take a look! |
