It blows hard in the Caribbean. That is why we want to get there through the Canal by late April, early May, when the trade winds are supposed to be a bit lighter.
From the Canal, we want to stop at Portobello, where the Spanish gathered the gold and silver shipped across the ithmus from the Pacific, after having been shipped from Perú. From there, we want to visit the San Blás Islands. Each island has its own government. They are known for the beautiful reefs, and the molas, beautiful colored textiles made by the women there. From there, we head north to Isla San Andrés for refueling, and continue around Cabo Gracias A Dios, to the island of Roatán.
Although our plans are not definite at this time, we would like to see Roatán, then head for Livingston, the mouth of the Río Dulce, in Guatemala. From there, we head north to the Bay of Islands, Cozumel and Cancún.
From Cancún, we head north to Isla Mujeres, which is our point of departure to the Dry Tortugas, Key West, and home to Marathon.
